I’ve been continuously making clothing – sewing, knitting and crocheting – since I was about six years old. Throughout school and my career of public service, I always had a project on the go, to help me unwind and stay in touch with the inner me. Soon after moving from the city to The County, I launched Cosmic Crochet PEC to nurture my transformation to a slower lifestyle, return to my creative roots and refine my niche in custom-crocheted wearables using luxurious locally-sourced natural fibres.
Inspiration for Cosmic Crochet wearables often comes from within, enriched by the colours and feel of the fibres in my hands, by the shaping of textured fabric and by anticipating the comfort and fit of a mindfully-crafted piece of wearable art. I’m influenced by patterns of other designers that align with the Cosmic Signature product lines – custom crafted wearable using Tunisian and Freeform techniques in breathable, natural fibres/yarns. Freeform trimming, edging and embellishments including patches called scrumbles are unique and defining elements of my production process.
As I nurture and refine my youthful ambitions to own and operate crochet micro-business, I’m moved and animated by the County’s generous people, their agrarian culture and artistic communities and the breathtaking vistas on and around my island home. My vision is to collaborate with other makers, spinners, producers and dyers of natural fibres, yarn and textiles in the County, to learn through shared skills and to contribute to the County’s arts and craft economy
